Where We Work
Our focus is primarily on serving the needs of underserved communities in India, particularly in poor Indian states such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and other backward areas. These areas have high levels of poverty, limited access to healthcare, and a high burden of preventable diseases, including eye diseases.
Why India?
India is home to over 1.3 billion people, many of whom live in poverty and face significant barriers to accessing healthcare services. Eye diseases are particularly prevalent in India, with an estimated 45 million people suffering from blindness or visual impairment. Many of these cases are preventable or treatable with proper healthcare services.
Our Approach
At MEDICS, we take a holistic approach to addressing the healthcare needs of underserved communities in India. We work closely with local partners, healthcare professionals, and community members to identify the most pressing healthcare needs and to develop tailored solutions that are effective and sustainable.
Eye Care Services in India
Our work in the eye care sector in India includes a range of services and initiatives aimed at preventing and treating eye diseases and improving eye health among underserved communities. These initiatives include:
Eye Camps
We organize eye camps in remote areas and underserved communities in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and other backward areas. These camps provide free eye screenings, diagnosis, and treatment to individuals who would otherwise not have access to such services.
Free Cataract Surgery
Cataract is a major cause of blindness in India, particularly among older adults. We provide free cataract surgeries to individuals in underserved communities, enabling them to regain their sight and independence.
Training and Capacity Building
We believe that building capacity and training local healthcare workers is essential to ensuring sustainable eye care services. We work with local healthcare professionals to provide training on eye health and disease management, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to provide quality eye care services to their communities.
Research and Advocacy
We conduct research to better understand the prevalence and causes of eye diseases in underserved communities in India. We use this information to advocate for policies and programs that improve access to eye care services and promote eye health.
